Carbon fabric

Carbon fabric

Carbon fibre is both lightweight and strong, which has lead to it being used in many of the worlds most advanced composite constructions. Because it is lighter and stronger than most metals, it has revolutionised many industries including green energy, aerospace, auto racing and many more.

The k size of the tow is what sets the weight and thickness of the mat, 3k is by far the most popular size we sell, but 6k and 12k can be used to build thickness cheaper.

Here we have a range of different thickness carbon fabrics. K size is how many thousand strands of carbon are in each fiber bundle or 'tow'. So for example 3k tow has 3000 strands of carbon in it, which is then woven into a mat using a particular weave type. Typical tow sizes are 1k, 3k, 6k, and 12k, with 3k being the most popular. Choose a larger tow size if you require to build thickness into your part at a cheaper cost, however the thicker the mat the harder it will become to make smaller parts or get it it to conform to weird and wacky shapes!
